The wing fest of all wing fests. The “Super Bowl” of wings. PARADE Magazine touts it as one of the 50 best food festivals in the United States. This time next week I’ll be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the National Buffalo Wing Festival at Coca Cola Field in downtown Buffalo, New York.
Last year, this event attracted 70,000 wingatics from around the world. Not only were all 50 states represented, but there was a huge international presence as well, drawing in visitors from 36 countries. More than 500,000 wings were consumed and this year proves to be even bigger. In a kickoff event this past Wednesday, festival founder Drew “The Wing King” Cerza gave fans a taste of what to expect.
I have never been to Buffalo before, so I’m super excited to learn more about the birthplace of chicken wings and to get to know its proud people. Not only will I be making my way through the crowds, mingling and chipping away at my wing count (which currently stands at 1,270), but I have also been confirmed as an official wing taste tester for the festival’s live online broadcast! You can watch the entire live stream right here.
My buddy Pete, who cooked up my 500th wing, will be making the 400 mile trip with me. It’s going to be a wingtastic time, no doubt. I’ll be tweeting, posting pictures and updates on this blog as well as my Ultimate Wingman Facebook page all weekend long. So, keep checking back and keep on #WINGING.
