I’m Eating My 2,011th Chicken Wing At…

If this were LeBron James’ blog, he’d title this post “The “Wing-cision.” (Cough, Cough). This is tough, but on December 20th I’ll be eating my 2,011th wing at Lansdowne Road Sports Bar in New York City. Press release below.

Ryan “The Ultimate Wingman” Hohman will complete his meaty milestone December 20th at Lansdowne Road Sports Bar in New York City.

New York, NY — December 8, 2011 – Ryan “The Ultimate Wingman” Hohman, whose 2011 New Year’s Resolution was to eat 2,011 chicken wings, announced that he will finish his year long “wing-athon” on December 20th at 7pm ET at Lansdowne Road Sports Bar (599 10th Ave between 43rd St & 44th St) in New York City. Hohman’s wing count stood at 1,908 when he made the announcement on his website (2011wings.com).

Hohman’s hefty, artery-clenching goal quickly became a viral phenomenon when Asylum, an entity formerly owned by AOL, stumbled upon the 27-year-old web producer’s Facebook page. Shortly after, the story was featured in TIME Magazine, Zagat, Spike TV, Metromix New York, Gothamist, L.A. Times Food, Eater National, Buffalo News and several other news outlets. Ryan appeared on Ireland News Talk Radio to talk about his quest, where host Tom Dunne repeatedly told him his “Life was a bliss.” He’s also made several appearances on SBK Live (Orlando’s #1 Nighttime Radio Talk Show) and Dwyer & Michaels (Davenport, IA).

In June, Ryan received a corporate sponsorship from well-known and popular heartburn medication, Prilosec OTC. As “Prilosec’s Official Ultimate Wingman”, Hohman blogs about his wing-eating expeditions on Prilosec’s Official Sponsor website.

To gear up for the start of the NFL Season, Bon Appetit Magazine invited Ryan on a wing crawl. Over the course of two days, he sampled wings from six wing spots around New York City. Stops included, Chef and Anthony Bourdain sidekick Cesar Casella’s Salumeria Rosi Parmacotto, Chef Zak Pelaccio’s Fatty Crab, Korea’s popular fried chicken chain Kyochon, Brooklyn hot spot Bonnie’s Grill, Texas style BBQ joint Hill Country, and Momofuku Noodle Bar. After the extensive crawl, Hohman declared New York City a “wing-tastic town.”

In September, Hohman was invited to be a featured participant at the 10th Anniversary of the National Buffalo Wing Festival at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY. For two days, Hohman wing’d his way through crowds of more than 40,000 people, sampling wings from America’s most renowned establishments. After consuming 91 chicken wings during the two day event, festival founder Drew “Buffalo’s Wing King” Cerza said Hohman “earned his degree in chicken wing eating.” Buffalo City Mayor Byron Brown also recognized “The Ultimate Wingman” for his wing-eating efforts at the festival.

Over the course of the year, Hohman has become a staple at wing competitions in New York City, serving as a guest judge at both the “Best Wings in Brooklyn Competition” and “New York City Wingfest.”

Hohman’s popular “wing-caps” on his blog (2011wings.com) have been published on Food Republic, a food website for men who want to eat and drink well, and to live smart. As Food Republic’s “Official Chicken Wing Correspondent”, Ryan does field reports on wing establishments in New York City.

Ryan’s speedy transformation from web producer to chicken wing connoisseur can be credited to his use of social media to keep his fans (or “wingtourage”) updated on the progress of his resolution. On Twitter (@2011wings), Hohman has coined the hashtag #WINGING and his Facebook page has become a place for wing lovers all over the world to share their passion for chicken wings.
